3. Read about Marco Polo. Then read the sentences and circle True or False. Correct the false sentences.
Marco Polo, who lived in the 13th century, was an Italian explorer who, with his father and uncle, was one of the first people from Western Europe to travel the Silk Road to China (which he called Catay).
Marco Polo wrote about his adventures in his book, called Il Milione. Marco Polo is a very famous explorer, but some people think he was better at telling stories than he was at traveling. They don't believe that he went to China all those years ago.
Polo's book says that he lived in China for 17 years before returning to Italy. When he returned to Italy, his friends wanted to hear all of his stories. Marco asked them all to visit his house one night. That night he wore Chinese clothes and showed his visitors the gold, silver and other things that his family had bought in China. His friends were amazed, but some of them still didn't believe him.
Before Marco died, a priest asked him to tell him the truth about his travels. Marco said that everything was true and there were more stories to tell. We don't know if it's true, but Marco Polo is also famous for introducing Italian things like pasta and pizza to China.
