Cuando dice PAST CONTINUOUS significa que seria algo que está haciendo en ese momento, es decir, el verbo estaria en gerundio.

EJEMPLO EN ESPAÑOL

estaba haciendo la comida

I was doing the lunch

Si una frase esta en past continuous, siempre va a llevar -ING.
