Explicación:

I am proud to meet with you today, in what will be before history the largest demonstration for freedom in the history of our country.

One hundred years ago, a great American, whose symbolic shadow shelters us today, signed the Emancipation Proclamation. This momentous decree meant a great ray of light and hope for millions of black slaves, scorched in the flames of withered injustice. It came like a beautiful sunrise at the end of a long night of captivity. But, a hundred years later, black is still not free; a hundred years later, the life of the black is still sadly lacerated by the wives of segregation and the chains of discrimination; a hundred years later, the black man lives on a lonely island in the middle of an immense ocean of material prosperity; One hundred years later, the Negro still languishes in the corners of American society and finds himself banished in his own land.

So today we have come here to dramatize a shameful condition. In a sense, we have come to the capital of our country, to collect a check. When the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, they signed a promissory note that every American would have to inherit. This document was the promise that all men would be guaranteed the inalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

That will be the day when all the children of God will be able to sing the hymn with a new meaning, "My country is yours. Sweet land of freedom, I sing to you. Land of freedom where my ancestors died, land of pride of pilgrims, of each side of the mountain, let freedom ring. " And if the United States is to be great, this will have to come true.

So let freedom ring out from the crest of the prodigious mountains of New Hampshire! Let freedom ring from the mighty mountains of New York! Let freedom ring from the heights of the Pennsylvania Alleghenies! Let freedom ring from the snowy Rockies of Colorado! Let freedom ring from the winding slopes of California! But not only that: ! Let freedom ring from the Georgia Stone Mountain! Let freedom ring from the Lookout Mountain of Tennessee! Let freedom ring from every little hill and mountain in Mississippi! "From each side of the mountain, let freedom ring."

When freedom rings and we let it ring in every village and hamlet, in every state and in every city, we can hasten the arrival of the day when all the children of God, black and white, Jewish and Christian, Protestant and Catholic, can join hands and sing the words of the old black spiritual: "Free at last! Free at last! Thank God almighty, we are free at last!"
