En el present progressive se utiliza ing para que lo entiendas mejor te dare   un ejemplo:

He is reading a book ( El esta leyendo un libro)                                                                                       Si te das cuenta en la oracion aparece el auxiliar to be y aparte el verb + ing, en el present progressive hay una estructura en la cual te ayudara mucho en este tema y esa es: sub + verbo to be + verbo with -ing +complement esta estructura es basica pero sirve para decir oraciones cortas aunque ya tu la puedes complemetar y añadir otras cosas.   :)
