 The scientist have represented the atoms by a nucleus, in which there are protons (positive charges) and neutrons and in circular orbits are electrons (negative charges) around the nucleus, which are attracted by the protons contained in the nucleus.

Each atom has the same number of electrons as protons and is equal to the atomic number.
