Respuesta:Every couple of months, a new photo app pops up that briefly takes over the internet before disappearing as quickly as it came. Who can forget about this summer, when all of us got to see what we would look like as old people? Or that time where everyone discovered their painting doppelgänger?
And now, the latest phenomenon is Gradient Photo Editor. As the name would suggest, it’s a photo-editing service but the thing that has really put it on the map is the “Who’s Your Twin” feature, which allows users to use selfies (or any photo of your face) to figure out your true celebrity look-a-like.
Of course, this is hardly the first time that an app has gotten popular by comparing you to a famous person but unlike FaceApp and its alleged metadata harvesting, Gradient “does not claim ownership of Your Content that you upload or (stylize) through the Service,” according to the app’s terms of use.
However, it also states that “You hereby grant to Gradient a non-exclusive, fully-paid and royalty-free, transferable, sub-licensable, worldwide license to use Your Content to provide our Service, subject to the Privacy Policy.” So while your photos aren’t owned, it does seem like Gradient can use them. Definitely a risk but not giving up ownership is much better than a lot of similar apps, so is it worth it? You decide.
So now that you know that your data and photo won’t be sold off to a sketchy Russian start-up, how does Gradient work? It’s pretty simple. You just go to the App Store, download Gradient, take a selfie or upload a photo, and share your results with your friends and/or followers. According to Gradient, I look like Helen Hunt or Shakira, depending on whether or not I smile with teeth.
The one thing that you’re going to want to know is that Gradient is not a free app. It costs $4.99 per week or $19.99 per month to use. However, there is a free 3-day trial period, so if all you are trying to do is get a hold of your celebrity photo montage, you can use the free trial and cancel your membership without paying. But make sure you cancel before the three days are up or you’ll be charged for the week or the month.
Is it a little silly? Sure but without the major privacy concerns, it seems to be harmless fun that everyone can enjoy, so long as you remember to cancel your membership before the free trial runs out.
