Authoritarian monarchy is a category used by historiography, which qualifies as authoritarian monarchies, without this meaning to consider them representatives of a fully articulated and defined political system with general validity, to the monarchies of Western Europe (which are also usually designated as national or early monarchies nation-states) between the end of the Middle Ages and the beginning of the Modern Age, in the emergence of what has come to be called the Old Regime.
