The attacks of September 11, 2001 (commonly referred to as 11/09 or the numeronym 11S or 11S ) were a series of four suicide bomb attacks perpetrated Tuesday morning November of September of 2001 in the United States over the network jihadist Al Qaeda , by hijacking of commercial aircraft to be impacted against various targets, killing 3016 people (including 19 terrorists and 24 missing) [ 1 ]And leaving more than 6000 injured. In turn, the destruction of the entire World Trade Center building complex (including the Twin Towers) in New York and serious damage to the Pentagon building , headquarters of the United States Department of Defense , was recorded . This episode would precede the war in Afghanistan and the adoption by the US Government and its allies of the policy called " war on terrorism ."
