1HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT OF THE INTEGRATION CONCEPT
There have been many theories that have tried to explain this behavior and have varied according to the political, economic and social context in which they arise. The word "region" is defined by the Dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy as "portion of territory determined by ethnic characters or special circumstances of climate, production, topography, administration, government, etc.". However, to carry out this research it is necessary to analyze the term "region" beyond the geographical conception of it, without ignoring that it is a factor that various authors take into account when defining the concept.
For Joseph Love, the constant region of a geographical size and a defined location, but emphasizes that it must be related to the integral form with a "greater unity" (it could be the Nation State or the entire American continent) once with other entities that are part of it. The region is defined, generates loyalties from its members, which, in turn, tend to be subordinate to loyalty to the "greater unity" (Love, cited by Clemente, 2010).
