Mario Vargas Llosa was born on March 28, 1936 in Arequipa, a city in southern Peru. His parents are Ernesto Vargas Maldonado (Aviator) and Dora Llosa Ureta. His childhood was spent between the cities of Bolivia, Piura and Lima. In Piura, at sixteen, he wrote his first play, The Flight of the Inca. In 1952, he began writing articles for the newspaper La Crónica de Lima. In 1953, he joined the Universidad Mayor de San Marcos and studied literature. In 1960, he traveled to France, where he worked in radio and devoted himself to literature.

Subsequently, published great literary successes: The Green House (1966), Conversation in the Cathedral (1969), Pantaleon and the Special (1973), Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter (1977), The War of the End of the World (1981) Who Killed Palomino Moreno? (1986) and In Praise of the stepmother (1988).
