Veronika decides to die, is a novel that tells us about the courage of a young and attractive woman who is determined to end her life, not because it was bad but because it was always the same, there was nothing interesting in it. Verónika saw in her life many achievements: she was independent, she had a job, a department, but in reality in her life there was nothing that encouraged her to continue living.
Veronika was a person who did not like to take on challenges; we can see when in the novel decides to choose the job as a librarian instead of taking the lawyer in a new company that came to the country, also when he decided to study law just because he did not want to go against his mother even knowing that his dream was that of being a professional pianist.
One of the aspects that I liked most about this novel was the method used by Dr. Igor to eliminate the bitterness of Veronika's body: "The conscience of death". In the novel it was raised how the knowledge of an inevitable death changes the way of seeing people's lives, makes us reconsider and re-evaluate what life, time, and the things we did in the past are, this knowledge makes us change and also makes us value life as what it really is, a miracle.
This could be observed when Verónika, once aware of what was happening to her heart, begins to experience experiences never before experienced and she realizes that if her life was always the same it was because she had chosen it so; she understands then that we are the ones who must give meaning to our lives, do different things, risky, crazy whenever we can and also realize that she lacked very little time to live and that she had wasted a lot of time on the same everyday things always, and trying to be someone who was not.
It is also important to remember that this effect is contagious because when you notice the situation that this girl lived in the sanatorium more than one of the patients of the place change their way of life and like her they begin to appreciate life.
