FORMACIÓN DEL INFINITIVO
El infinitivo es la forma básica de un verbo. En inglés, cuando hablamos del infinitivo normalmente nos referimos al "present infinitive", que es el más utilizado. Sin embargo, existen otras cuatro formas verbales compuestas con infinitivos en inglés: el "perfect infinitive", el "perfect continuous infinitive", el "continuous infinitive" y el "passive infinitive".
El infinitivo tiene dos formas:
infinitivo con to = to + raíz del verbo
infinitivo sin to o "zero infinitive" = raíz
FUNCIONES DEL INFINITIVO CON "TO"

INFINITIVO CON "TO" PARA INDICAR PROPÓSITO O INTENCIÓN DE UNA ACCIÓN
En este caso, "to" significa lo mismo que las expresiones "in order to" o "so as to".

Explicación:
Si el verbo se hace sujeto, debe ir en gerund, es decir, terminado en ing. Siempre que se refiere a la actividad como tal, se usa gerundio.
