We use the simple past to talk about the actions that happened in the past. Actions that started and finished in the past.

Para hablar de las acciones que sucedieron en el pasado. Acciones iniciadas y terminadas en el pasado.

The rule is :

Δ For regular verbs = The subject + verb + ed
Ex : To play.
I + play + ed
I played football

Δ For irregular Verbs:
they are changeable and there must be memoried .
Ex : To eat.
infinitive : eat
simple past : ate
past participle : eaten
