Elon Reeve Musk (Pretoria, South Africa, June 28, 1971) is a physicist, investor and South African tycoon with Canadian and American nationality. Co-founder of PayPal, Tesla Motors, SpaceX, Hyperloop, SolarCity, The Boring Company and OpenAI. He is general manager of SpaceX, Tesla Motors, president of SolarCity and co-president of OpenAI. In June of 2017 his fortune was estimated at 17.4 billion US dollars, which makes him the 56th richest person in the world. In December 2016, Musk was named the 21st most powerful person in the world by Forbes magazine.3
Musk claims that the purposes of SolarCity, Tesla and SpaceX revolve around his vision of changing the world and humanity drastically. Some of its goals are to stop the process of global warming by abandoning fossil fuels by renewable energy, especially solar energy, and reduce the risk of a possible extinction of the human race through the evolution towards a "multiplanetary civilization" through the creation of a permanent human colony on Mars of about one million people.4 Elon Musk is often credited with creating the first economically viable electric car, the Tesla Roadster. In addition, Musk has designed a private successor to the space shuttle, the Falcon 9. SpaceX is the largest private space exploration company in the world.
