La estructura del presente continuo positivo es:

sujeto +auxiliar +  verbo + gerundio (ing)

Ejemplo:

John is working.  

(John está trabajando.)

John (sujeto) + is (auxiliar) + Work(verbo)ing (gerundio)

La estructura del presente continuo negativo es:

Se emplea la palabra "not" que normalmente puede unirse tanto con el sujeto como el auxiliar "to be" en la forma contraída.

sujeto + auxiliar + not + verbo + gerundio (ing)+ complemento.

Ejemplo:

They're not playing football. / They aren't playing football.  

(No están jugando al fútbol.)

They (sujeto) + are(auxiliar)n't(not forma contraída) + play(verbo)ing(gerundio)+ football (complemento)

La estructura del presente continuo pregunta es:

auxiliar +sujeto + verbo + gerundio (ing)

Ejemplo:

Is John working?
