Porfirio Diaz was a dictator who led Mexico between 1877 and 1880, and later from 1884 to 1911. Its government, known as the Porfiriato, was characterized by promoting economic growth and the industrial boom, but at the expense of the most vulnerable inhabitants of Mexico. One of the most characteristic elements of the Diaz government is that it began by promising that it would not accept re-election, and ended up governing for more than 30 years. His government was military, he had control of the institutions, there was no freedom of the press and the development of political leaders was avoided.
