This is a tradition of Celtic origin to celebrate the end of summer and the Irish harvests
Halloween is a festival of pagan origin that is celebrated on the night of October 31, Eve of All Saints' Day (its Christian version), and that has its roots in the ancient Celtic festival known as Samhain (pronounced "sow-in" ), which means "end of summer" and was celebrated at the end of the harvest season in Ireland to start the "Celtic New Year", coinciding with the autumn solstice.
During that night it was believed that the spirits of the deceased walked among the living, and held sacred feasts and rites that included communication with the dead. In addition, it was customary to place a lit candle in the windows so that the dead would "find their way".
This is a tradition primarily Celtic, so it is celebrated in Anglo-Saxon countries such as Ireland, Canada, Australia, England and the United States, the latter having the largest media and cultural diffusion of the party, due to the transmission of customs and customs of the Irish immigrants.
But Halloween also has some impact in countries like Mexico and Colombia, where it is celebrated, as in other countries, today.

It is a tradition of Celtic origin and of pagan origin that is celebrated on the night of October 31, has its roots in the old festival known as Samhain which means “end of summer” and was celebrated at the end of the harvest season in Ireland to give Beginning of the "Celtic New Year", coinciding with the autumn solstice.
During that night it was believed that the spirits of the deceased walked among the living (very similar to the Christian belief), parties and sacred rites were held to communicate with the spirits of the dead.
Similar to the Christian belief (Christians place candles) the Celts used turnips full of coal burning as lanterns to guide deceased relatives and scare evil spirits, so it is customary to make pumpkins with mostrous faces and light inside.
In addition, the children collected gifts from all the houses to offer them to the gods and handed them over to the Druids ("Celtic priests") to perform a sacred ritual in which human and animal sacrifices were a very important element.
Originally celebrated in Anglo-Saxon countries such as Ireland, Canada, Australia, England, the tradition came to the United States thanks to Irish migrants who arrived in the country expanding to Latin America and other countries.
