A long time ago, when the Spaniards began to live in the lands of Matagalpa, they found out about the gold deposits that were in the territories of the Cacique that the third Villa de Sébaco, and decided to go to that place.
They were very well received by the Cacique, who gave them many handfuls of gold to be sent to the King of Spain.
After giving them the gifts, the Cacique begged the foreigners to stay away and never come back. They pretended to do so but soon returned with the sole intention of stealing the riches from the Cacique, who knew of his intentions and hid his treasures. Only his daughter knew the place of hiding and a few days later, the Spaniards were defeated.
Time passed and one of the sons of the old conquered Spaniards arrived, who fell madly in love with the beautiful daughter of the Cacique. But the girl, knowing that her father would strongly oppose marriage, fled with him.
She, generous and in love, took her beloved to the hiding place where her father kept his treasures and gave them to her. The ambitious young man, who was only waiting for those riches, already satisfied for having obtained them, locked her in a cave and covered the exit. There she went crazy until she finally managed to leave through a tunnel turned into a witch.
And since then, that beautiful princess who became the witch of the Mocuana, appears on the roads, inviting the walkers to her cave. People say they have never been able to see his face; only his beautiful figure, and his long hair.
But it is also said that when the princess's father learned of his affairs, he killed the young man and she locked her in a cave while pregnant. When the princess managed to escape already mad, she threw her little son into the abyss and became a witch. And they say that's why the witch of Mocuana takes the newborn children, leaving her parents some pieces of gold.
